SDET Overview
SDET is a highly automated Steel Detailing product for Beam/Column structures with simple, moment and braced connections. The product supports metric and ft-ins units and is a full 3D system that incorporates connection designs based on applied loads and design code compliance for US and UK design codes. The design determines the required number of bolts and addresses horizontally and/or vertically skewed beams with TOS level differences. Bolt fouling is automatically eliminated and end copes are determined based on discrete member cross sectional properties.

SDET currently supports SCRIPT files, SDNF format files and Structural TriForma DGN files for importing 3D member geometry and member cross sections. CIS/2 is seen as a vital part of the SDET solution not only for clients in the US but also for clients in Europe. This will be supported in the future. Project defaults are specified using XML and a forms-based editor.

A fully automated connection design process is then executed. Member topology and connectivity is automatically derived and user-specified connection type priorities are used to guide the design process. The results are output as a full 3D model showing member cross sections, cutbacks, skews, end copes and connection materials including cleats, plates, bolts and welds. Also output are 2D GA drawings, 2D fabrication drawings showing details for beams, columns and braces and corresponding calculation sheets. Hyperlinks between the graphics files and calculation sheets are created to allow users to easily move between different output views.

CAD output format is based on industry standards and can be either DXF or DGN. This enables the 3D models and 2D drawings to be viewed using a standard CAD Viewer. Such Viewers are currently available at no cost and can be readily downloaded via the internet.
